I took my oldest son to Disney for his first visit at 16 months old, and I had been holding off on his first haircut for this very reason! I’d heard about the First Haircut Package at Harmony Barber Shop and my first baby’s 1st haircut needed to be special, gosh darnit! My family had been giving me a hard time about the mullet-in-the-making, but I was determined to let the little guy’s locks remain untouched till we made it to the Magic Kingdom. Mission accomplished. Mother’s Day 2011 we had our appointment.
Now, it’s no secret that things at Disney tend to be expensive, so I was expecting to pay more than your average price for this haircut. Imagine my surprise when I called to make an appointment and they told me the price for this package was a mere $18 (back in 2011, it is currently listed at $25 as of April 2017)! A trip to the neighborhood kiddie salon costs that much…and there is far less magic, I assure you ;-p
When we walked in, my sweet little boy was greeted by his stylist and propped up on a booster, covered in Mickey stickers (and I mean COVERED – look at him!), draped with a paper bib (held closed with Mickey stickers, of course), and handed a fabulously distracting light-up, spinning Mickey toy before the stylist got to work on snip, snip, snipping away his bleach blonde locks – nothing drastic, I was a first-time mom after-all.
All the stickers and the toy were wonderful distractions, though he did still have moments of “I’m not so sure I like what’s happening here.” We made it through without any major meltdowns though, and in the end he was given a brand new set of Mickey Ears:
How CUTE?!? We also received his locks of hair in an envelope with Mickey confetti and a signed and dated Harmony Barber Shop First Haircut Certificate to document the occasion. ALL for just $18! I’ve been known to find some bargains in Disney, and I’d say this is one of my favorites.
We had to pose outside with the barber shop pole too…I love the old-time feel of this place! If your little one is going to be due for a first haircut around the time of your trip to Disney, hold off on their cut and schedule an appointment at the Harmony Barber Shop! It’s a great memory AND souvenir from your trip. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (407) WDW-PLAY or (407) 939-7529. Walk-ins are also welcome, but since planning is my game, I always recommend the reservation route!
