Disney’s Pop Century Resort is our Choice Value – Here’s Why!
Disney’s Pop Century Resort is just one of five value resorts to choose from at the Walt Disney World Resort, but if you ask me, the choice is easy! I’ve stayed at Pop Century four times now. I. LOVE. Pop Century!
To give you the basics, this resort is located in ESPN’s Wide World of Sports area at Walt Disney World, about 1.5 miles from Disney’s Hollywood Studios and 3 miles from EPCOT. The resort spans 177 acres, with 2,880 rooms in ten separate buildings themed after decades from the 1950s through the 1990s. There are three pool areas: the Bowling Pool in the 50s section, the Hippy Dippy Pool in the 60s section, and the Computer Pool in the 90s section. “Classic Hall” is the central building where you’ll find the front desk, gift shop, arcade, and food court, Everything POP!
The food court here is MASSIVE! There is something for everyone, with numerous stations offering a variety of foods, from burgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and fries to stir fry, chili, pizza (and not just cheese or pepperoni, how about buffalo chicken flat bread? YUM!), pork shank and mashed, pot roast, rotisserie chicken, sloppy joes, soups, salads, the list goes on! The dessert options seem endless (try the tie-dye cheesecake), and when it comes to choosing a drink, know that you’ve got the option to indulge in some adult beverages from the cooler section as well.
The 60s and 70s section is where the preferred rooms are – these are the rooms closest to dining and transportation. My husband is a big bowling fan, so we’ve requested to stay in the 1950s – portions of the 1950s section of the resort are also close to Classic Hall and the buses. (Building 1 of the 1950s is right next to the bellhop end of Classic Hall – just to put things in perspective). The Bowling Pool (as well as the Computer Pool in the ‘90s) is known as the “quiet” pool. There is a giant jukebox (standing nearly as tall as the building itself) at one end of the pool – be sure to read some of the song titles!
This Resort is undergoing major room renovations, and each room will have a Queen Bed! http://fallensorcery.com/pma/index.php This is the first Value Resort outside of Art of Animation Suites that offers Queen Beds! In addition, they have a second murphy-style table bed that can fold up during the day to give more room to everyone! Each room features hardwood flooring, a spacious mini-fridge, USB plugs in the outlets, a huge TV and wonderful vanity area to get ready! We love the new updates!
One of the greatest things about Pop Century is its bus service. While there are five different value resorts to choose from on Disney property, three of those value resorts share a bus line, adding just a little more time between you and your final destination. That’s not the case with Pop Century. This resort has its own dedicated bus line, no sharing with any other resort – just one straight shot to and from the parks! That truly makes a world of difference when you’re traveling with little ones, especially!
On our most recent stay at Pop Century, we requested to stay in the 60s section of the
resort – we thought we’d try something different (variety is the spice of life, after all). We had a lake view, 3rd floor room, and had the greatest surprise of all! Just after 9 p.m. one night, I began hearing loud noises, looked out my door, and saw this: Illuminations!! Right outside my resort room door…what a way to end a Disney day! I love Pop Century! <3
