Worried about fitting on Flight of Passage? These tips might help!

Last May, I was at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on the opening day of Pandora: The World of Avatar.  We all read the same blogs around that time…  During the soft opening phase of the new land, some guests were too large to fit on their new E-Ticket attraction, Flight of Passage.  Cue internet panic and outrage.

To say I was nervous was an understatement.  No one wants to go to a theme park and worry they will be turned away on a ride, especially not one you’ve been told is the best ride ever (it is, by the way)…

On my way out of the attraction, I spoke with a Cast Member about how excited I was to have had no issues at all.  She shared some tips with me that they’ve learned on fitting better…  and I thought I’d share them with you!

First: Do like your Momma told you and sit up straight!  There are three harnesses, one on your back, one on each leg.  The back harness comes from behind and rests on your lower back.  I’m a 2x who carries most of my weight in my belly area.  This harness was the one I was most worried about.  Hunching over just makes everything wider, so sit up straight when the harness goes into place.

Second:  Scoot all way forward.  You want to sit all the way up as far as you can go in the seat.  Again, this is going to help with the back harness.  It’s going to be a little uncomfortable – but it will definitely help your chances!

Third: Lift your legs.  If you carry a lot of weight in your legs (specifically your calves), make sure your feet are all the way forward and either go up on your tip toes or if you can, lift your legs up while the leg harnesses lock into place.  Unfortunately, the leg harnesses are what cause the most problem…   There is very little give there, and from what I’ve heard from friends, those with larger calves have had the hardest time.
