Learning Lessons from the Weasley Family.
http://fertilitylaw.ca/tr.php It’s no secret that I’m a big Harry Potter geek. During my free-time, I am currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and something I just read made me stop and pause.
We all know and love the Weasley Family. Most fans of the books would consider Molly and Arthur to be the pinnacle of great parenting. They are kind, loving and protective. We also know that the Weasleys have very little money. Their children wear hand-me-downs. They have to scrape money together for their children’s books each year. But they are always, more than anything, happy.
So, as I read this book, for the millionth time, I came to Ron’s letter to Harry, explaining that his father won a contest, with a prize of 700 Galleons (quite a lot, in Muggle money), and his parents used almost the entire prize to take the entire family on a vacation to Egypt.
Think on that for a second. These incredible parents, who count change before each shopping trip, instead of spending that money on what many would consider “sensible”, realized the great value of Family Memories, and spent that money on an experience.
So what is the lesson here?
You have a limited amount of years as a family unit. You have a limited amount of years in this life. So… take that trip. See the world. Laugh with your toddler as you ride on a flying elephant. Soak up the sun with your teenager as you lay on a beach in paradise. Share the beauty of the Old-World with your kids as you discover new wonders together.
Don’t waste this time. Take some advice from Molly and Arthur and see the great value of making lifetime family memories while on vacation.
